Paeroa, a vibrant town in New Zealand’s Waikato region, was honoured as the 2012 Mitre 10 Community of the Year for its exceptional community spirit and proactive initiatives. Faced with challenges common to small towns, Paeroa distinguished itself through a robust calendar of events, heritage preservation, and a strong volunteer network that fostered a safe and dynamic community. Local organisations such as Positive Paeroa, the Paeroa Community Support Trust, and the Paeroa Promotions Trust played pivotal roles in these achievements. Beyond its iconic Lemon & Paeroa bottle, the town has become a model for community-led revitalisation and civic pride.
