Auckland Trip Competition – Terms & Conditions

1. The Competition

1.1 The promoter of this competition is the New Zealander of the Year Awards Office (“Promoter”).
1.2 By entering the competition, entrants agree to these Competition Terms & Conditions.
1.3 The competition opens at 9.00am on Tuesday 21 July 2026 and closes at midnight on Friday 14 August 2026.
1.4 To enter, entrants must make a nomination in the 2027 New Zealander of the Year Awards via nzawards.org.nz during the competition period.
1.5 One winner will be selected by random draw on Tuesday 1 September 2026.
1.6 The winner will be notified by email using the contact details provided with their entry.

2. Eligibility

2.1 The competition is open to New Zealand residents aged 18 years or over, excluding employees of the Promoter and their immediate families, and anyone directly involved in administering the competition.
2.2 The Promoter reserves the right to verify the eligibility of any entrant or winner.

3. The Prize

3.1 The winner will receive a trip for two people to Auckland to attend the 2027 New Zealander of the Year Awards.
3.2 The Prize includes:
– return economy airfares for two people from the nearest suitable main centre airport to the winner’s usual place of residence, as determined by the Promoter;
– one night’s accommodation in Auckland for two people, sharing one room; and
– two tickets to the 2027 New Zealander of the Year Awards.
3.3 The 2027 New Zealander of the Year Awards event date is to be confirmed and is expected to take place in April 2027. The Promoter will confirm the event date and travel arrangements with the winner once these are available.
3.4 The Prize is for the winner and one travelling companion. The winner is responsible for ensuring their companion is available and able to travel on the required dates.
3.5 The winner may choose to extend their stay in Auckland beyond the one-night accommodation included in the Prize. Any additional accommodation, flights, transport, meals or other costs associated with extending the trip are the responsibility of the winner.
3.6 The Prize does not include spending money, travel insurance, meals, airport transfers, local transport or other personal expenses unless expressly stated above.
3.7 The Prize is not transferable, exchangeable or redeemable for cash.

4. Travel

4.1 Flights will be arranged by the Promoter and will depart from the nearest suitable main centre airport to the winner’s usual place of residence. The Promoter will determine the departure airport having regard to the winner’s location, available flights, travel time and reasonable travel requirements.
4.2 The Promoter will determine the airline, flight times and itinerary, subject to availability.
4.3 The winner must provide all information reasonably required to arrange the Prize, including the full legal names and contact details of the winner and their travelling companion.
4.4 Any costs arising from changes requested by the winner or travelling companion after travel arrangements have been confirmed will be the responsibility of the winner.
4.5 The winner and their travelling companion are responsible for ensuring they are able to travel on the dates required and have any identification or other documentation required for domestic travel.

5. Prize Draw and Acceptance

5.1 The winner will be selected by random draw on Tuesday 1 September 2026.
5.2 The winner will be contacted by email. The winner must accept the Prize and provide any requested information within 5 business days of being notified.
5.3 If the winner does not respond within 5 business days, or is found to be ineligible, the Promoter reserves the right to redraw the Prize.
5.4 The Promoter may request reasonable information from the winner to confirm their eligibility and arrange the Prize.

6. Changes and Cancellation

6.1 The Promoter reserves the right to make reasonable changes to the Prize, including travel, accommodation or event arrangements, where necessary due to availability, operational requirements or circumstances outside the Promoter’s reasonable control.
6.2 If the 2027 New Zealander of the Year Awards event is postponed, rescheduled or cancelled for reasons outside the Promoter’s reasonable control, the Promoter will use reasonable endeavours to provide an alternative arrangement or reschedule the Prize where possible.
6.3 If the winner is unable or chooses not to travel on the required dates, the Prize may be forfeited and the Promoter may redraw the Prize.

7. General

7.1 The Promoter’s decision in relation to the competition and Prize is final, subject to applicable law.
7.2 To the extent permitted by law, the Promoter is not responsible for any loss, damage, delay or expense arising from participation in the competition or use of the Prize, except where caused by the Promoter’s negligence or otherwise cannot lawfully be excluded.
7.3 By accepting the Prize, the winner agrees that the Promoter may use their name and photograph in connection with the competition and promotion of the New Zealander of the Year Awards, subject to applicable privacy laws.
7.4 The Promoter reserves the right to amend, modify or otherwise change these Terms & Conditions at any time where reasonably necessary, subject to applicable law. Any changes will be effective from the date they are published or otherwise communicated by the Promoter.
