Entry in the Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year Awards is free.
Nominees must be over the age of 15 and either a New Zealand citizen or have held a permanent Residents Visa for a minimum period of five years at the time of nomination.
Nominees must have lived in New Zealand for at least two years prior to nomination. However, people currently residing outside of New Zealand temporarily due to work or study commitments are still eligible to enter.
Awards cannot be granted posthumously.
Judges will consider a nominees' achievements and contributions over the calendar year, as well as their achievements and contributions over a longer period of time.
Nominations may only be made on the official nomination form submitted online, via post, courier, facsimile or via www.nzawards.org.nz or category sponsor website.
All current national and local government politicians may be considered for Awards, only on the basis of work completed outside of their role or duties as a public servant.
Nominees must be at least 15 years of age as at the close of nominations.
Nominations for community groups, couples, committees etc. will only be accepted in Community of the Year and the Local Hero category. The nomination of community groups, couples, committees etc in the Local Hero will need to be approved by the Awards office.
Unsuccessful nominees may re-nominate in subsequent years.
The Local Heroes category will have one national winner. Local Hero medals will be judged and presented regionally with medals awarded in each region according to each regional judging panel's discretion. Past recipients of Local Heroes medals are not eligible to receive another Local Hero medal but are eligible for the national Local Hero award.
An individual may be nominated in more than one category if appropriate.
The New Zealander of the Year Awards reserves the right to enter nominations in additional award categories as deemed appropriate. Every effort will be made to inform nominators and nominees of this.
It is permissible to contact the awards office for guidance and support during compilation of a nomination.
All nomination information and material submitted remains the property of the awards office and will not be returned unless previously arranged.
Nominees will be encouraged to make themselves available without cost for publicity purposes as required prior to and after the Gala Awards Presentation Dinner.
Nominees agree to allow the use of their nomination information for publicity purposes.
Those selected as finalists should be available to attend the Gala Awards Presentation Dinner in Auckland, 21st February 2019 (Inability to attend does not disqualify entry).
The Judge's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
